Lifespan to Honor Maryland Legislators Maryland legislators exert tremendous impact on the daily lives of Maryland citizens, according to LifeSpan President Isabella Firth. "Our position is that Maryland legislators must champion the rights of seniors and their families in a meaningful and concrete fashion. To recognize those who do so, we will present an annual Champion of Seniors award to State legislators who support better care for Maryland seniors and their families." LifeSpan claims workforce incentives urgently needed to care for Maryland seniors in 2007 Fewer people are entering health care professions throughout Maryland everyday, yet more and more peopleespecially seniorsneed these services. "Maryland began to seriously examine this problem with the Governor’s Healthcare Workforce Summit back in 2003, and although the work to date has been commendable, if we don’t create meaningful health care workforce incentives, address vacancy rates, pay and training in 2007 those most vulnerableseniorswill suffer," said LifeSpan President Isabella Firth. LifeSpan calls upon Maryland officials to ‘Honor the Promise’ for its seniors LifeSpan President Isabella Firth today announced the beginning of a statewide 'Honor the Promise' campaign to encourage State officials to adopt four key action items that will ensure Maryland delivers proper care to its rapidly-growing senior population. "It is clear from recent election results that voters want change and are weary of the same-old status-quo when it comes to elected officials living up to the promise of bipartisan performance of their duties” said Firth. “Our Honor the Promise campaign calls for those taking office in the next legislative session to tackle the problems of providing for the needs of Maryland’s increasingly vulnerable senior population. From the beginning, our system of government has promised to ensure that the needs of its citizens are met. We are simply asking elected officials to honor that promise."
